Tractor Trailer  - Commercial 
Class A

We train you to be a confident driver and assist in you passing your road test. Please keep in mind, a commercial road test can last up to 2 hours.

There are 3 parts to a Commercial Road Test

​

In order to obtain a Class A permit you must do the following:

• You must pass a Department of Transportation Medical Exam

• Pass the following permit test at the NYS DMV

• General Knowledge, Air Brakes and Combination Vehicles

​

We accept the following training grants:

Workforce 1 for Class A, B, B/p

Amazon for Class A

Pre Trip Inspection

During this part of your test, you are required to go under the hood and name the engine components, walk around, in-cab inspection and air brake testing.

Maneuvers

During this part of the test, you will be tested on 3 skills:

• Offset parking

• Parallel parking

• Straight line backing

 Drive

At this part of the test you will drive. During the drive you will be stating out loud your actions. Example: Shouting out street signs, railroad crossing, approaching overpass, etc.

We have Tractor Trailers with Automatic Transmissions & Manual Transmissions.

We offer individual lessons as well as money saving packages. 

 

At CDL Auto Club we are happy to work your lessons around your schedule. 

We provide instruction 7 days a week.  When you visit our office and enroll you will leave with a personalized schedule of your lesson(s) and road test appointment, Pre-Trip Inspection Booklet and Direction Sheet to our Training Yard.

Our Training Yard is conveniently located on Staten Island and is set up to mimic the DMV road testing site.

Keep In Mind

If you received your permit on or after 2/7/2022 you must take an 

Entry Level Theory Training Course, which we provide this service as well.

This course and the hours of training you received will be documents in the Federal Motor Carriers Portal.  DMV will cancel your road test without taking this course.

ELDT Theory

 

On February 7, 2022, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) rule went into effect. EDLT is a two-part requirement for anyone wanting to:

  • Obtain a commercial driver’s license (Class A or B),

  • Upgrade from Class B CDL to Class A,

  • Or get a passenger (P), school bus (S), or hazmat (H) endorsement for the first time.

 

The Theory course is the first part of this requirement and covers topics such as:

Orientation, control systems/dashboards, pre-and post-trip inspections, basic control, shifting/operating transmissions, coupling and uncoupling, visual search, communication, and distracted driving speed management.

 

While there is no minimum number of hours required to complete this course, the student must cover all topics required by the FMCSA.
